San Francisco: Gay Sunshine Press, 1996 - Octavo. Original blue cloth, titles gilt to spine. With the illustrated dust jacket. Very slight rubbing or minor creases to some edges of the jacket, excellent condition. Illustrated frontispiece and other illustrations in the text. First edition, first printing, scarce cloth issue, publisher Winston Leyland's own copy with his ownership inscription to half-title. The majority of the limited hardback issues of Gay Sunshine Press books were sold to libraries and are consequently scarce. Winston Leyland (b.1940) was a leading figure in American LGBT publishing and won the Stonewall Book Award in 1980. He established the Gay Sunshine Press in 1975, which was notable for its pioneering anthologies of gay writing from other cultures, and his Gay Sunshine Journal (1970-82) was particularly influential for its interviews with prominent gay writers of the era.
