Bishop Burnet's History of His Own Time
Oxford - The University Press 1833 - The complete six volumes of this notable historical work. History of my Own Time was first begun in 1683 and covers the English Civil War and the Commonwealth of England to the Treaty of Utrecht (1713). This critical edition of the text was first published in 1823 by Oxford University press and has numerous footnotes edited by Martin Routh. With a 'corrections' leaf to the rear of volume VI for the set. Noted for its detailed sketch of the history of the Civil Wars and Commonwealth written by a contemporary. Burnet wrote this work with some bias but overall a desire for accuracy and fairness. With a vignette to the title page of volume I. The second edition of the Oxford critical edition. Condition: In uniform full calf bindings. Externally, smart. Patches of rubbing to the spines and joints. Rubbing to the spines is heaviest to the head and tail. Some fading to the gilt stamping to spines and spine labels due to rubbing. Top of front board to volume VI has faded due to sun exposure. A few light marks and rubs to boards. Prior owner's bookplate to the front pastedowns of all volumes with the monogram G H B. Internally, all volumes are firmly bound. Pages are bright with spots to the first and last few pages. Occasional spots found to pages. Overall: VERY GOOD. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
