(12)pp. This vibrant children's book, illustrated with twelve full-color, full-page plates, narrates the early years of George Washington's life in verse. His childhood deeds, including learning to ride a horse at age ten, chopping down his father's cherry tree, and setting out as a land surveyor as a teenager, are all presented with accompanying illustrations and two stanzas of poetic lyrics. This is number 37 in Stecher Lithographic Company's series of children's books. Throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth centures, Stecher became a major printer of chromolithographic posters, labels, and trade cards, along with artist-drawn holiday postcards. Bound in covers each with a full-color lithographic illustration. General edgewear, especially along spine, else near fine.
