Printed by James Adams, for the author, Wilmington, Del 1788 - Duodecimo. xii, 13-295 (1)pp. Original calf with gilt lettering on red label of spine; raised bands. Contains list of subscriber, pages 287-295, and epilogue of the author at rear wherein he, amongst other things, warns copyright violators to expect his due diligence in tracking them down and persecute. Pattillo was a Scottish born pioneer Presbyterian minister, educator, and Patriot in North Carolina. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister in 1758 by the Presbytery of Hanover. In 1784 the Granville parishioners presented him with a 300-acre farm on Spicemarrow Creek where Pattillo lived with his family until his death. In 1787 he was awarded an honorary masters degree in recognition of his accomplishments by the Hampden-Sydney College and in 1788 published a books of his sermons including the homilies. Inscribed Cora Lombard on inside front cover and "Presented to Adelaide G. Frost by Paul Watkins, Oct. 10, 1916" on front free endpaper. Binding with wear along edges, very small chips and closed tear at head of front joint, some staining and scuffing on covers. Some foxing and browning of endpapers. Page numbers for the five sermons added in handwriting on title page. Binding in overall good-, interior in very good condition. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
