Godey's Lady's Book was a popular 19th century magazine offering fiction and non-fiction articles, suggestions for managing a home, lithographs, steel plate etchings in color and black&white of fashions, with other illustrated plates. Pen&Ink line drawings as well. Music scores; Hand arts patterns; Nature studies; Serial fiction. Editor Sarah Josepha Hale, from Newport NH, became in widowhood the first editor of a magazine in America, at that same employment for more than 4 decades. She championed education for women, the establishment of a national Thanksgiving Day, and early on, raising funds in Boston to complete the stalled Bunker Hill Monument.
