- Original antique print, titled: 'Madame de Bouvillon ouvre la Porte a Ragotin qui luy fait une bosse au frond', ('Mrs de Bouvillon opening the door to Ragotin and getting a bump on her forehead'), short man entering a bedroom where a woman is leaning on a man for support and holding her head in pain after having been hit by the door; scene from Scarron's 'Le Roman Comique' (volume II, chapter 10). Etching/engraving on a verge type handlaid paper. Description: Original Master Print, published ca. 1732-1740. This plate is part of a series: 'Cycle du Roman comique au chateau de Sans-Souci.' , based on Paul Scarron: 'Le Roman comique.' (1651 et 1657). Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Petrus Surugue after J.B. Pater. Pierre Louis Surugue (1716-1772) was a French engraver and publisher. Jean Baptiste Pater (1695-1736) was a French painter/draughtsman, the only pupil of Watteau, and a painter of ' Fetes Galantes'. Paul Scarron (1610-1660) was a French poet, dramatist, and novelist. Condition: Very good, given age. Small black spots in the bottom and right margins. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. Profesionally matted, not examined out of matting. Storage location: DPO-78-21 The overall size is ca. 22.8 x 19.7 inch. The image size is ca. 15 x 11.6 inch. The overall size is ca. 58 x 50 cm. The image size is ca. 38 x 29.5 cm.
