- Plate : 'La Nonchalante.' Plate after the original painting by Schalken. Depicted is a 17th century scene with a woman leaning on the window frame looking outside. Engraving / etching on a verge type of hand-laid paper with hand colouring. Description: Separately published master print. Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters. Published in Paris ca. 1760.Artists and Engravers: This plate by F. Basan after Scalken. Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a 'Dictionnaire des Graveurs' in 1789. Gottfried Schalcken (or Schalken, 1643-1706) was a Dutch portrait and genre painter. Condition: Good, given age. Margins slightly browned. A few small unobtrusive spots that will frame out. Small tear right edge, not affecting image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. Storage location: DP-A142-32 The overall size is ca. 10,6 x 13,8 inch. The image size is ca. 9,4 x 11,8 inch. The overall size is ca. 27 x 35 cm. The image size is ca. 24 x 30 cm.
