The Quatermass Trilogy
Harmondsworth: Penguin Books Ltd. 1959-1960. 8vo. 3 vols. Original paper wrappers, housed in custom-made green fall-down-back box, with red morcco lettering piece to spine; b&w photos in each volume; a little rubbing to spines, very good. First editions. The scripts for all three series of the BBC science fiction thriller centring around the rocket scientist Bernard Quatermass and his manned space flight programme. In the first series, his astronauts are taken over by an alien species; the second series sees aliens inflitrating the British government; while the third season concerns an ancient alien spaceship buried beneath London that holds the secret to the history of human evolution. The last story, in particular, was considered to be one of the most terrifying things yet seen on television and the series as a whole had a huge influence on Dr Who, authors such as Stephen King and directors such as John Carpenter.
