A is for the Alphabet--So You Can Read and Write.
1994. Accordian-fold hand-calligraphed alphabet with short phrases for each letter. The book has been decorated with simple watercolor illustrations, which are fitting for the juvenile audience. Many of the phrases are religious in nature, such as "O is for the Ocean. God's love is deep." Calligraphy and artwork both executed by Timothy Botts, who graduated from Carnegie and was influenced by the work of Ben Shahn and Sister Corita Kent. Botts, who studied in Japan, says of his work that "calligraphy became a natural link between my art and spirituality.... The frequent joy comes from my personal experience of the gospel of Jesus." Bound in red paper-covered boards, which tie at the sides with green ribbons. Housed in a red box with sequined lid. Very fine. (2 1/4 by 1 5/8; 57x41mm. Box measures 2 3/4 by 2 1/4; 70x57mm).
