- New York: Pantheon, 1962. Early Printing. Translated by Ralph Manheim. A very good copy in blue cloth with gilt lettering and design on the spine and front panel. There is slight bumping to the spine ends and minor light discoloration at the top edge. The book (592 pp) is square and tight. The dustwrapper is near-fine with the price ($6.95) intact and with 2/63 on the bottom of the front flap, suggesting a second printing. There is a tiny chip at the top of the front panel. Grass has signed this copy on the title page. The author's first book, The Tin Drum is one of the post-WW II classics, a combination of history, horror story, burlesque cartoon and satiric fable with vibrant, subversive imagery which changed German fiction overnight. Grass has signed this copy on the title page. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
