Boosey and Co., London 1894 - 160 p. 8 b&w plates (I - IX, plate VIII missing) & 12 b&w line drawings. Red cloth hardcover with gold impressing has some soiling of covers, especially front. Tear in cloth at lower front hinge. Corners bumped. Small label on front pastedown, signatures in blue on front free endpaper and last page of text. Some thumbing within. Jacob Adam Kappey (1826-1907) was a conductor, composer and arranger born in the Rhineland but working in England. He wrote the first book in English dealing with the history of military music and its instruments. Nine editions have been published. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
