A Gay Dog
London - William Heinemann, 1905 Book. VERY GOOD INDEED. Hardcover. First edition.. A first edition of this illustrated story by the inimitable Cecil Aldin. The work includes 24 lithographed plates of illustrations by Aldin; each one charts the adventures of the canine hero. Aldin is especially known for his illustrations of animals, and hislove ofhunting gave him a particular affinity with dogs. That comes out in these charming plates. The accompanying text tells the story of the dog's adventures from his point of view. A testament to an England that had fallen into a sentimental relationship with its pets during the previous century. Modern readers will find its sentiment very familiar. Condition: In the original cloth-backed pictorial boards, slightly bowed, and with alittle wear and marking. Overall, however, smart. The first and last few pages area litle foxed as usual, otherwise generally clean and brigh throughout. The lithographs themselves are particularly well preserved. Firmly bound. Overall: VERY GOOD INDEED.
