New York: I. Riley, 1809. 1st. Hard Cover. Very Good. vi, 330pp,[1] 8vo. Binding is 3/4-Leather w/ marbled boards (rebound some time ago) and original marbled end papers front and back. 12 mo - over 6 3/4" - 7 3/4" tall. top edge gilt, leather rubbed with small chips. Complete with portrait and errata. Title page trimmed very close to 1809 date. Light foxing on some pages. Previous owner's notes on back endpapers. Front endpaper torn 1" vertically at top, newspaper article glued to front endpaper, back hinge slightly separated. Tear of page 225 about 1 3/4" vertically on top left not effecting text. Page 172 & 173 have a previous owners written reference to a Charlevoix volume between the text. Otherwise, a very good condition of a complete and important book., "Part I consists of Henry's reminiscences of fur trading among the Indians of the upper Great Lakes region, and his escape from the massacre at Fort Michilimackinac during Pontiac's war. He was captured, however, in 1763, and his account of the captivity offers much early material on the domestic habits of the northern Indians. Part II is a narrative journal of his travels through the Indian countries" Lande 1224., TPL 484.
