New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1981. First edition thus. Hardcover. Crisp, as new copy (with tear to original tissue jacket). N. C. Wyeth. Illustrated by N. C. Wyeth. #329 of 750 copies which have been specially bound and numbered. This limited edition contains the previously unpublished first sketch by Wyeth for the original edition of this book. Bound in black cloth with gilt lettering and designs, with ribbon marker (original tissue jacket present with tear at top of spine), housed in the publisher's black cloth slipcase. 14 color plates, and illustrated endpapers, with a color title page. Beginning in 1981 Scribner's, publisher of the Children's Illustrated Classics series, began to reprint those illustrated by N.C. Wyeth, releasing one each year for 15 years. They returned to the original art work, making new transparencies of each illustration, creating new fresh and bright images. Each year a deluxe boxed edition was produced as well, numbered, with ribbon marker, and printed on paper meeting the Council on Library Resources standards for permanence and durability.
