Tabvla Islandiae
Incisione in rame, coloritura coeva, in ottime condizioni. Molto decorativa. KOEMAN: Me 184 & 185. Decorative full color example of Blaeu's map of Iceland. A stunning map, including an erupting volcano, sea monsters, sailing ships, decorative cartouches, compass rose and the spectacular landscape of Iceland. Carolius used Mercator's version of Bishop Gudbrandur Thorlaksson's map as his source. An attractive and detailed map of Iceland with an elaborate title cartouche in the lower left corner. The map was drawn by Joris Carolus, a pilot and map maker from Enkhuizen, who was also responsible for numerous manuscript maps as well as other charts of the northern seas that were later published by Jansson. Sea monsters, compass roses and a sailing ship decorate the surrounding ocean. Koeman/Krogt, Atlantes Neerlandici, Vol 1 #1250
