Bllomington: Indiana University Press, 1957 - Octavo. Original black cloth, title to spine in orange, decoration to front board in orange, top edge orange. Rear top tip bumped. An excellent copy in the toned dust jacket, slightly nicked. First edition, first printing, In 1945, Mistral became the first Latin American author to win a Nobel Prize for Literature. This copy is inscribed by its translator, Langston Hughes, on the front free endpaper, "Happy New Year to Cousin Rose, sincerely Langston/New York January 1958". Cousin Rose is Rose Leary Love, North Carolinian educator and author. This copy is also signed by Hughes at the end of the introduction, very scarce thus. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy]
