Lino-Cuts : A Handbook Of Linoleum-Cut Colour Printing
The First UK printing published by John Lane, The Bodley Head Ltd in 1927. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. Light pushing at the spine ends. A small rubbed area on the lower edge. Crimson top-stain remains very bright. Mild age related dustiness to the covers. Light offsetting to the end papers with light spotting to the prelims and page edges in places. Text block lightly spotted. Small Bookseller's sticker to the lower rear pastedown. Free from inscriptions. The scarce fragile WRAPPER is in Very Good condition. Some edge-wear and creasing with loss mainly at the spine ends and rear panel edges (see images). The wrapper design looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book includes an original linocut, 'Crossing The Road', by Claude Flight printed from the artists original lino blocks, in red, cobalt blue and black. Claude Flight was a British artist who pioneered and popularised the linoleum cut technique. He also painted, illustrated and made wood cuts. was a member of the Seven and Five Society in 1923 whose members included Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth. He was also a member of the Grubb Group in 1928. He collaborated with Edith Lawrence with whom he had an interior design business, taught at the Grosvenor School of Modern Art from 1926 and wrote and organized exhibitions on linocuts. His pupils included various now-famous print artists such as Lill Tschudi, Cyril Power, Eileen Mayo and Sybil Andrews. Scarce with the wrapper. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.
