Detailed hand coloured map showing Australia (with Tasman's discoveries), Southern India, Ceylon, China, Macau, Korea, Japan, Cambodia, Malacca, Indonesia, Philippines and Formosa. This pleasingly decorative map features two compass roses, three western ships in full sail, a dhow and an elaborate title cartouche using the image of a pagoda into which is included a Chinese noble lady and her attendant, a merchant and his servants and a variety of Asian products. Map is orientated with north on the right, east at the top. Text in Latin and Dutch. Central fold. 44.7 x 54.7cm.Frederick de Wit's map, first published in 1680, of which this is the Louis Renard reissue, was based on Pieter Goos' chart of the region published in 1666.
