Very rare revised second edition of the Dutch translation of Campe's Nützliche und lehrreiche Unterhaltungen für die Jugend (ca. 1800), first published in Dutch in 1804. Chapter 29 tells the story of of Captain Cook's last voyage.Joachim Heinrich Campe (1746-1818), a famous German pedagogue, who had been the teacher of Alexander and Wilhelm von Humboldt, in 1787 became director of the publishing and bookseller's office of the orphanage at Braunschweig, later the "Braunschweigische Schulbuchhandlung", and published a large number of educational books, including the famous Robinson der Jüngere. Old owner's inscription cut from the foot of the title-page (not affecting any text), some thumbing and the spine tattered, otherwise generally a good copy.
