With the Conquering Turk - Confessions of a Bashi-Bazouk.
William Blackwood, Edinburgh and London. [1897] - First edition. Octavo. pp vii, 315, 32 adverts. Four folding maps. Original red cloth. Scarce. The author was the most famous war correspondent of his time and was present during the Greco-Turkish war of 1897. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title: "To Sir Charles Dilke from the Author". The recipient was an Liberal and Radical politician at one point touted as a future prime minister. His political aspirations were dashed by a notorious and well-publicised divorce case. Spine a little stained and snagged at head of spine. Prelims a little spotted. Two of the maps have been carelessly opened with long tears at the folds but are complete. Very good. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
