Antique Master Print-HIGHWAYMAN-ROBBER-MURDER-RAPE-Wouwerman-Cousinet-c.1750
- Original master print, titled: 'La Forest Dangereuse'. It shows a group of highwaymen waylaid some travellers. Three men are either dead or have their lives threatened, while a woman was taken a ways off, into the woods, near a fire. Original handcoloured etching/engraving on a verge type handlaid paper. Description: Original antique master print. This print was published by Lempereur, c.1750. Our definition of a Master Print is a seperately published print or series of prints, not being an illustrative print to a text. These can both be prints made by old masters (artists) or prints made by others (artists, engravers, etchers) after old masters.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by Cousinet after a painting by Wouwerman. Philips Wouwerman (1619-1668) was a Dutch painter of landscapes, hunting and battle scenes. Catherine Elizabeth Cousinet (1726-1780) was a French female engraver. She was married to Louis Simon Lempereur (also an engraver). Condition: Excellent, given age. A pinprick hole in the middle of the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional light soiling from handling. Please study scan carefully. Storage location: DP-B1-36 The overall size is ca. 18.3 x 15.9 inch. The image size is ca. 15.7 x 13.2 inch. The overall size is ca. 46.5 x 40.5 cm. The image size is ca. 40 x 33.5 cm.
