Some Trees.
New Haven: Yale University Press,, 1956. With a foreword by W. H. Auden. Octavo. Original black cloth, titles to spine gilt. With the dust jacket. Some denting and minor rubbing around the head of spine and top edge of boards, otherwise an excellent copy, with the dust jacket very smart indeed, only lightly flecked with ink on the front panel. First edition, first printing, of the author's first collection, inscribed on the title page "for Mark, John Ashbery, Cambridge 5/11/98". There were only 817 copies printed of the Pulitzer Prize winning poet's first collection. W. H. Auden (who had been the subject of Ashbery's Harvard senior thesis) made the selection and wrote the foreword.
