Gun Notes, Volumes I & II
Long Beach, CA: Safari Press, 1995. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Quarto (28 cm), pp. xii, 219; xiii, [i], 292. Limited editions (#39 and #86 of 500), signed by author's son Ted Keith on limitation page. Volume I (1995) in dark blue cloth with red slipcse, Volme II (1996) in red cloth with blue slipcase, both with gilt titling. A selection of articles published in Guns & Ammo magazine with Keith's notes on his experiences (and experiments) in the field with guns in chronological chapters from 1961-1970 (Volume I), and 1971-1984 (Volume II). Both volumes end with letters reproducing correspondence between Keith, publisher Truman Fowler, and legendary hunter/author Jack O'Connor. Both are illustrated with black and white photos. The slipcase of Volume I has a small smudge on the front and back, where the publishers's cellophane (removed for cataloging purposes), had small holes. Elmer Keith, also the author of Hell, I Was There, was widely acknowledged to be "the leading pistol and revolver authority in the land" (Sixguns). These volumes, which were published posthumously, showcase Keith's sense of humor and engaging writing style.
