Nicholas Nickleby
London: Chapman and Hall,, [c.1870]. Octavo (212 x 137 mm). Bound by Bayntun in early-20th-century green half morocco, spine gilt to compartments, green cloth sides, top edge gilt, green endpapers. Portrait frontispiece with tissue-guard, 39 engraved plates. Spine very slightly faded, tiny markings to covers, occasional slight foxing. An excellent copy. An attractively bound copy of Dickens's third novel, originally published as a serial from 1838 to 1839. Dickens's novel "has some title to being the funniest novel Dickens ever wrote; it is perhaps the funniest novel in the English language" (Peter Ackroyd, Dickens, pp. 262–3).
