London: Elkin Mathews, 1909 - Octavo. Original brown boards, titles to spine and front board gilt, fore and bottom edges untrimmed. Light rubbing to spine ends, joints starting from the top, internally fine, an excellent copy. Publisher's device to title page in red. First edition, one of around 500 copies under the original separate issue, this in Gallup's earlier binding with spine titles measuring 20 mm, as opposed to the later with 15 mm titles. Personae is Pound's first regular book (the two preceding works, A Lume Spento and A Quinzaine for this Yule, having being printed at Pound's own expense in small numbers (100 copies apiece), and now rare (fewer than 30 survive of each, many fewer in private hands). It was published at the expense of the publisher in an edition of 1,000, but the collection sold slowly, and in 1913 Elkin Mathews issued the remaining sheets – around 500 – as a combined issue bound together with remaining sheets of Pound's Exaltations. Gallup A3. [Attributes: First Edition]
