(on Monument) Anvers prends garde, Anvers prends garde . (music)' - A satirical print with various politicians caricatured as children, dancing around a pedestal supporting toys and paper hens. Celebrates the lifting of the siege of the citadel of Antwerp held by the Dutch starting 15 November 1832. The figures satirised include Jean Charles Persil, Dupin, Comte de Lobau, Felix Barthe, D'Argout and Louis Philippe (King of the French). Handcoloured crayon style lithograph on wove paper. Description: The satirical periodical La Caricature, no. 109, ca. 1833.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Henry-Jean Becquet' after 'Eugene Forest'. Henry-Jean Becquet (1812-1855) was a Belgian painter and lithographer from Bruges. He studied in Antwerp. Condition: Very good, given age. Original middle fold as issued. Paper separation in the top and lower edges of the middle fold, and in the right and left middle of print, reinforced using contemporary paper. Two small holes in lower margin, backed using contemporary paper on the front. Sheet overall a little discoloured (as often with paper from this period). General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. Storage location: B12-42 The overall size is ca. 19.4 x 13.3 inch. The image size is ca. 18.2 x 12.1 inch. The overall size is ca. 49.4 x 33.7 cm. The image size is ca. 46.2 x 30.8 cm.
