- Antique print, titled: 'The beheading of St. John the Baptist', Herod and Salome with the head of John the Baptist on a silver plate. With three other figures. Oval engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Attached to verge carrier. Description: Goudt only made a few engravings, most of them after works by Elsheimer. Of these, this is the rarest. State: State III (of 3). Ref: Hollstein 4. Artists and Engravers: Made by Hendrick Goudt after Adam Elsheimer. Adam Elsheimer (1578-1610) was a German painter. Hendrick Goudt (1585-ca. 1648) was a Dutch Golden Age engraver and painter of landscapes and religious subjects. He was strongly influenced by Elsheimer. Condition: Good, given age. Attached to carrier. Partly trimmed to the image edge, partly trimmed inside the platemark. A few spots of foxing/small stains. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. Storage location: R1-072 LA The overall size is ca. 4.5 x 5.3 inch. The image size is ca. 2.2 x 2.6 inch. The overall size is ca. 11.5 x 13.5 cm. The image size is ca. 5.5 x 6.5 cm.
