[Eureka, CA: Hearse Press], 1960. First Edition. One of 50 copies (from a total edition of 201) privately distributed during the summer of 1960 to friends of the author and publisher. Broadside (5" x 11") letterpress printed in red on white stock, blindstamped "Strathmore Artist" at lower right corner and signed by publisher E.V. Griffith on verso. A Fine copy. Bukowski's first separately-issued publication, preceding Flower, Fist and Bestial Wail by four months. The remaining 150 copies were held in reserve by Griffith and issued in 1964as part of a portfolio of broadsides by Bukowski and others; these were slightly shorter in size, without the deckled lower edge and blindstamp. A reprint was issued by Black Sparrow Press in 1969, in a smaller format, and included in Sanford Dorbin's 1969 bibliography of Bukowski's work. A rarity, with none for sale in the trade, and the only examples in the auction record being the 1969 reprint. Krumhansl 2; Dorbin B1; Fogel 2.
