Later 20th-century black half morocco, spine lettered in gilt with gilt motifs to compartments within raised bands, green marbled sides and endpapers, green marbled edges. Illustrated frontispiece with tissue guard. Two ownership inscriptions to front free endpaper and preface. Slight rubbing to extremities, crease to frontispiece tissue guard, tiny crease to the top corner of a few pages, some light marking to contents. Overall a very good copy. First edition of this historical work by John Timbs, the noted antiquary. With the ownership inscription of Charles William Oman, the British military historian.
