Paris: Nepveu, 1820.First Edition of this scarce account of Tea, its history and production, beautifully illustrated with ten brilliantly hand-coloured engraved plates.The fine engravings were executed after designs by Kaempfer, Bessa, Deguignes and others, and depict several varieties of the plant in full flower; the fruits of the tree; the manufacture of tea in China and Japan; transporting tea leaves by boat; preparing sheets to cover the bales; manufacturing crates for shipping, and workers using their feet to crush the tea leaves in great barrels. The final plate - engraved after a Chinese painting - depicts a scene wherein a group of men are using monkeys to collect rare tea leaves.Two trade cards for the F. Marquis, Négociant en Thés Fabricant de Chocolats, and one for Duvauchel Md. De Thés tipped on the preliminaries.
