New Orleans: Loujon Press,, 1963. new & selected poems 1955-1963. introduction by john william corrington. gypsy lou series no. 1: a loujon press award book. Octavo. Original white stiff wrappers printed with orange decoration, leaves in various colours and widths. With the illustrated dust jacket incorporated into a card wallet folder, with pictoral flap over fore-edge from rear. Some illustrated and facsimile leaves. A fine copy. First and signed limited edition, first printing, one of 777 unnumbered copies, signed and dated by the author on the front free endpaper (16 February 1964). Bukowski has used yellow paint to sign this copy, rather unusually (copies are more commonly found signed in silver ink). The work collects together what Jon and Louis, the printers, considered to be Bukowski's best works since 1955. It takes its title from a line in a poem by Robinson Jeffers and on the final page the printers describe the printing process in elaborate detail. Together with the facsimile letter loosely laid in, as issued, in which Bukowki comments "I have never seen a book put together in such a way, inventive creativeness and love."
