Travels in Various Parts of Peru, including a Year's Residence in Potosi.
E.L. Carey & A. Hart, Philadelphia, and Lilly, Wait, Boston. 1833 - First U.S. edition. Octavo. pp xii, 240; viii, 259. Frontispiece wood engraving and with another engraving at the end of Vol. II. Original cloth-backed paper boards, printed title-labels on spines. The author, a knight of the Royal and Distinguished Order of Charles III, travelled to Bolivia as secretary of the Potosí Mining Association, an English company that operated briefly and unsuccessfully at Potosí. Temple criticised the Peruvian politicians and shareholders back home but whether this was due to his concern for the local people or because he failed so terribly in the business remains a moot point. Signs of damp affecting the second volume at bottom section of spine and at bottom margins of leaves at beginning and end. Covers marked and quite bruised at corners. Some spotting. A good set. [Attributes: First Edition; Hard Cover]
