Selections from the Smuts Papers. Volume 1, June 1886 - May 1902 [to] Volume 4, November 1918 - August 1919
Cambridge, Cambridge University Press, 1966. Large octavo, four volumes, approximately 600 pages per volume. Cloth; top edges of all volumes coloured light red as issued; new endpapers in the first two volumes (which also have a small institutional library stamp on the top and bottom edges); essentially unread copies with as-new dustwrappers. 'These first four volumes of selections, down to 1919, cover the same period as the first volume of [Professor Hancock's] authoritative biography, "Smuts - The Sanguine Years, 1870-1919", published by the Cambridge University Press in 1962. A fine copy of the book (albeit with the top and bottom edge stamps) with the lightly stained and worn dustwrapper, is included with this set. A further three volumes of selections from the Smuts papers, and another volume of the biography, were published later.
