La Divina Commedia. Or, The Divine Vision. In Italian and English. The Italian text edited by Mario Casella of the University of Florence with the English version of H. F. Cary and 42 illustrations after the drawings by Sandro Botticelli.
London: The Nonesuch Press, 1928 - Folio. Original orange vellum, titles to spine, roundels and rules to boards in gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Vellum a little finger-soiled, spine slightly darkened, a little rubbing to extremities, overall still quite bright, faint tape residue to front endpapers, patch of abrasion to pastedowns. A very good copy. With 34 double and 8 single-page plates after Botticelli. First Nonesuch edition, number 253 from a limited edition of 1,475 copies on Dutch paper. A beautifully presented and bound edition of Dante's Divine Comedy, with Dante's Italian printed parallel to Rev. Henry F. Cary's English translation (1814, a translation much loved by Coleridge), and with Sandro Botticelli's illustrations, reproduced from the first Florentine edition of the Divine Comedy (1481).
