London: Frederick Warne and Co., 1904 - Sextodecimo. Original grey paper-covered boards, titles to spine and front cover in dark green, pictorial label to front cover, illustrated endpapers. Small ownership stamp to title page. Joints starting at head and foot, pictorial label slightly marked, tips very slightly worn, front hinge cracked with traces of glue, text block still sound, occasional light finger soiling to contents, short closed tears to pp. 45 and 56. A very good copy. Frontispiece and 26 colour illustrations by the author. First edition, first impression, with "muffatees" ("muffetees" in the second impression onward) and "we" in Roman type (italics in the second impression onward) on page 15. The regular trade binding of the first impression was either grey or tan paper boards, with no priority between them. Linder, p. 424; Quinby 6. [Attributes: First Edition]
