London: Printed for Henry Colburn, 1818.. AUTHOR MENTIONED IN JANE AUSTEN'S 'EMMA'. First edition thus. Crown octavo, pp.[14], iv, 277 [7]. adverts dated January 1818. In contemporary light blue paper-covered boards, recently re-backed in grey paper-covered card with titles to cream paper label on spine. Date added by hand in black ink to base of spine. All edges untrimmed. Bookplate of Frank W. Bentall of Heybridge, Maldon, in Essex to front pastedown. Some wear to boards; very good overall. De Genlis was one of the few French authors acceptable to English audiences in the later eighteenth century, even scoring a mention in Jane Austen's 'Emma'. 'Zuma' was first published in French in 1817.
