The Hound of the Baskervilles
McClure, Phillips & Co, 1902. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. 249 pp. + 8 pages of ads at rear. Illustrated by Sidney Paget. First American edition, first printing, Brunton's State 3. (The state incorrectly assumed by many bibliographers to be the first. Does not state "Illustrated" on title page, mentions George Newnes but no publication date line on copyright page. Similar in size and cloth to our other Tabard Inn copy but with an entirely different, more squat gilt font than it or the trade edition. The Tabard Inn Library was a membership library that placed books in hotels and other business for customers to read.) Near Fine, with rubbing to cloth at extremities, and a bit to the bottom of the front board, previous owner name to front free end paper, small rubber stamp to rear paste down, and light sporadic foxing to pages. A lovely copy.
