Clean and well-preserved copy bound in one contemporary full leatherbinding richly gilt on spine. One leaf nicely restored in upper corner. * Johann Matthias (Matyhias) Hase (Haas, Haase) (Latinized as Johannes Hasius) was a German mathematician, astronomer, and well-known cartographer. This work is a beautiful book on the historical topography of the Holy Land and its surrounding regions, including Greece, Turkey and Cyprus to Egypt, Syria, up to the Caspian Sea. It contains 6 large, fine historical maps showing the region from the reign of David and Salomon [10th century BC] through that of Herod [end of 1st century BC].
