London: Methuen & Co., 1896. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/no dust jacket . James Greig, Illustrator. First Edition. Clean green cloth boards with black illustration and lettering on cover, stamped gold lettering on spine. A few small dents to board edges; no fraying or wear-through. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean with clean endpapers; very small blind-stamped embossment at top edge of front free endpaper. Illustrated by James Greig (four, including frontispiece with tissue guard). 312 pages + 37 pages of publisher's catalog/information at rear of book. A very scarce first edition of a horror tale involviing a man-eating spider, set in colonial Africa.
