London: Henry Colburn, New Burlington Street, 1828. 3 Vols., lge.12mo; bound up without the half-titles, and the advertisement leaf at the end of volumes two and three; contemporary full polished calf, tooled blind with ten-rule central frames and corner ornaments within a double-ruled gilt border on sides, flat spine elaborately ruled and tooled gilt in compartments, lettered direct in the second and fourth compartment; edges of corners tooled gilt; oil-marbled end-papers and edges; purple silk marker in volumes two and three, absent in volume one. Small splash (probably white paint) on front cover of volume one; Slight rubbing to joints, but no weakness; a few leaves lightly foxed, and light staining from the markers; armorial bookplate on each front paste-down; otherwise a very nice copy in a pleasant period binding. Woolf, 4158; Sadleir 1444: "He is in the front rank of silver-fork novelists". All books listed by Robert Temple are first editions unless otherwise stated.
