Glasgow - Printed by R. Urie 1753 - An uncommon copy of The History of Oracles, in Two Dissertations Translated from the best edition of the original French by M. de Fontenelle. Wherein are proved, I. That the oracles were not given out by Daemons; but were invented and supported by the craft of the pagan priests. II. That the oracles did not cease at the coming of Jesus Christ; but subsisted four hundred years after it, till the entire abolition of paganism. Previous owner's ink inscription to title. Condition: Disbound with remnants of original calf to backstrip. Externally, generally sound but with wear and loss to backstrip, boards absent, edgewear, minor foxingand handling marks to front and rear. Evidence of past worming throughout, mostly marginal butin places slightly affecting text, although still legible. Internally, firmly bound. Bright and generally clean with only occasional spots and handling marks. Overall: VERY GOOD though disbound [Attributes: Hard Cover]
