A Two Page Hand Written Letter from J.R.R. Tolkien, with hand addressed envelope, contains reference to 'finishing Vol 3 of The Lord of the Rings
1955. Near Fine/N/a. Signed by Author. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Autographed, 2 page (front & back) hand written letter and envelope to Miss Turnbull, on his letterhead, with 76 Sandfield Road, Headington, Oxford address. May 19th, 1955 Dear Miss Turnbull, Your munificent and magnificent gift arrived safely on May 17th (I think). I am ashamed of not letting you know at once, but I have been vexed with 'administrations' during the last few days. Though sending off the last (marginal note) 'and at last' items for Vol III might have seemed a suitable occasion for the withdrawing of at least one cork, I have so far refrained: but when I drink I shall remember with (verso) a gratitude at least as warm and deep as Old Rory felt for his bottles of Old Winyards. I can only hope Vol. III will be up to it! Yours sincerely, J.R.R. Tolkien Envelope hand addressed and canceled from Oxford on May 19, 1955 and addressed to: Miss Turnbull, Airy Hill, Whitby, Yorkshire Housed in a Custom Leather Binder lined with beautiful handmarbled papers by Joan Ajala of Australia. Features two mylar folders to hold the letter and envelope for easy viewing. Digital photo's available, inquire if interested. Other Tolkien books available, include both the UK and US editions, original cloth bindings, custom fine bindings, and Signed/Numbered/Limited Editions. Near Fine / N/a.
