Title page is from 1694 but text may be a later (1701) printing. **** William Holder (1616-1698) was a clergyman and music theorist whose most notable work was his widely known 1694 publication, "A Treatise on the Natural Grounds and Principles of Harmony". He married Susanna Wren, sister of Christopher Wren, in 1643, and became a Canon of St. Paul's in 1672. Of note is that in1660 he and the mathematician John Wallis taught a deaf mute to speak "plainly and distinctly, and with a good and graceful tone". Provenance: The horological library of Michael Hurst. Ex R.K. Foulkes. Condition: Some rubbing to edges of binding. Previous owner R.K.Foulkes' name to front free endpaper. Pages cropped affecting the top half of some of the page numbers. . Hard Cover. Very Good.
