EXCEPTIONALLY RARE - Worldcat records no surviving examples of this work. Bound in publisher's half brown morocco over green cloth, spine and covers decorated in gilt and blind, top edge gilt (3 leaves at front are lacking the upper half of the leaf - with loss). Still apparently the only surviving copy of this work. "Japanese botanist Manabu Miyoshi served as Professor of Botany at the University of Tokyo (1895-1939) and became the second director of the university’s botanical gardens (1922-1924). He published works on the Japanese iris (Iris ensata Thumb.), Japanese cherry (Prunus species) and sweetflag (Acorus calamus L.). His Atlas of Japanese vegetation, illustrated with photographs, appeared in 1905-1909. A keen conservationist, he promoted the idea of ‘natural monuments’ for preservation."(JSTOR).
