Machine Tabulation in the Census Office: 1870-1912.-- UNPUBLISHED
1952 - Unpublished Copy of a History of Machine Tabulation (1952) Holley, Robert H. "Machine Tabulation in the Census Office: 1870-1912." (Copyright 1952, photomechanical reproduction, 11x8.5 inches, (5), 44 sheets, (4) pp of index, (3) pp chronology 1846-1929, plus 14 leaves of illustrations. Includes a number of manuscript corrections to the original some of which are original, the others not. This seems to be an unpublished manuscript, even though there is a WorldCat/OCLC record, there is no listing for a library. Geoffrey D. Austrian, in his authoritative Herman Hollerith: Forgotten Giant of Information Processing (1982) refers to Holley in chapter 1 and states the source to be an "unpublished manuscript" held at the Census Records, National Archives. __+__ The Holley paper includes: "Comment on Robert H. Holley's Machine Tabulation in the Census Bureau, 1870-1912." by Leon Truesdell. 11x8.5 inches, 5 leaves (carbons?) single-space of notes and corrections by Truesdell on the Holley text. The numbers of the notes are annotated in red on the text.__+__ Plus: TLs from Truesdell to the former owner and historian and medical statistician in the biowarfare section at Fort Detrick, dated 11/8/1966. This copy differs somewhat from the OCLC copy which does not actually seem to be located in any library. The catalogued copy seems not to have the illustrations nor the chronology at the end.
