Manabe Takesuke, Osaka 1874 - First edition. 1 v., complete (the later edition was published, enlarged, in 2 v.). Filled with copperplate engravings, which is extremely rare as at the time of publication in Japan most books were woodblock-printed. Some plates hand-coloured. 216 illustrations in 68 p. Slight soiling, chips and two small wormholes to covers and similar wear and loss to title slip. Wormhole to gutter of last few pages, 5cm tear to gutter of lower pastedown. Otherwise near fine. A rare early Meiji anatomical book in Japanese, translated from `An Anatomical Atlas` (1844) by American doctor Henry Hollingworth Smith. 26 x 17 cm. Oblong folding album. 39 l. Text in Japanese.
