In Henry's Backyard: The Races of Mankind
Henry Schuman, New York 1948 - Signed by both authors, very scarce find. Historically important. The book is based on the 1943 pamphlet and associated animated film, "Races of Mankind"--which also was illustrated by Adolf (Ad) Reinhardt. The original pamphlet, was published by the Public Affairs Committee, Inc. of the UAW/CIO as a gift to the American people to help prepare the U.S. military to fight alongside allies from other cultures. The authors stated that the perceived differences between the races are cultural rather than biological. Ultimately, the pamphlet was not broadly distributed by military and was classified as subversive and banned in the early 1950s. Gene Weltfish/born Regina Weltfish/ was a central and blacklisted figure in the McCarthy hearings. This book is very fine internally, however some wear on the exterior, particularly on the spine, makes it very good- condition overall. [Attributes: First Edition; Signed Copy; Hard Cover]
