- Bern; Beat Friedrich Fischer, 1787. 8:o. 20,5x13 cm. (1. 1 blank), lxx, (1, 1 blank), 208 + 15, (1) pp. + 2 copper-engraved plates, 2 folding maps and 2 folding tables. With 4 copper-engraved vignettes in the text. Contemporary half calf binding with five raised bands, gilt floriated spine, sprinkled paper on boards and red edges. Spine label in red leather. Bookplate on front paste-down (Sture Munke). Spine ends a little worn and the corners are slightly bumped. There is a tiny damage on each board, in the form a small cavity. A small stain in top margin of pp. xliii/xliv, and a few more small scattered specks. A small chip in lower margin of the first chapter's title page. Lower corner of pp. 197/198 has been professionally mended. Contents are bright and clean. First published in 1784. The frontispiece was made by the renowned etcher, engraver, and illustrator Anton Balthasar Dunker, who after having work in Paris and Basel moved to Bern, where he spent the rest of his life. Walter published a second volume, entitled "Geschichte der Römer in Helvetien", in 1791. [Attributes: Hard Cover]
