George E. Eyre & Andrew Spottiswoode, London - High quality bound in thick beveled, sculptedboards with gilt detail. Brass cross to front, brass initials to rear. 5 raised bands and gilt title/detail to spine. All edges are gilt impressed & gauffered, which turn to deep blue effect when turned. Marbled endpapers with bookplate on FEP 'To Mr. Edward Robert Hartley, Chipping Norton, as a Testimony of Gratitude and Affection from his Nephew Edward Robert Hartley, Stratford-upon-Avon' (In 1950 Dorothy Hartley the author presented his old desk to Chipping Norton School).
