Contemporary red half-morocco and morocco corners, covers with gilt fillets, richly gilt-decorated spine with 5 raised bands, gilt-tooled fleurons, gilt-tooled lettering of name, title and date. Pages uncut. The first 6 chapters of part 1 provide an introduction to the properties of mushrooms and their history (composition, culture, geography, physiologie &c). The next 14 chapters provide an overview of their uses in industry and art, culture, harvest, culinary preparation, toxicity and medical use). Part 2 treats classification and taxonomy of the different mushroom species with their physical properties. At the end a glossary, a bibliography, a list of their usual French names, a table of the 60 plates, an alphabetic list and a table of contents. First pages with a small marginal unobtrusive faint stain (far outside of text), dedication page and last endpaper with slight stains, last endpaper with small damage. Otherwise a fine copy of the first edition of this marvelous work on mycology complete with 60 excellent chromolithographic plates in a nice contemporary binding.
